Assistance League of Long Beach has always been a part of Linda Landes’ life.  In 1940 her mother, Clare Hossom, was one of the founding members. Linda is proud of her family’s many connections to Assistance League of Long Beach.  Linda became a chapter member in 1988 after her younger daughter went off to college.  As a member, Linda most enjoyed her Fridays working at the Thrift Shop.  With her mother, she is sure she visited every location the Thrift Shop ever had.

Call it weirdness or whatever you want, Sandie and Terry McCarthy found it many years ago. They fell in love. Sandie joined Assistance League in 1984, culminating with her presidency, and Terry has contributed his expertise to the Orthodontic Center. Seeing the quality of the leadership and membership as well as all that Assistance League of Long Beach does for the community, Terry concludes that there is no better organization. It is the model for how to run a nonprofit. “We know,” they say, “that a gift today will ensure positive change in the lives of others.”

"It doesn’t matter what it is. What matters is what it will become.” - Dr. Seuss

Joining Assistance League of Long Beach as a member of Las Hermanas seemed like a perfect fit for Pam Lydon. She had lost her husband, and the support of a caring group like Las Hermanas and the philanthropic activities in which she could participate would help to fill a void and give her purpose. Pam likes being a member of Assistance League, because it is so well run, it has amazing members, and it gives her a chance to give back to the community. “Assistance League of Long Beach is a comforting organization to belong to,“ she said, “and we are all of one heart.”  It’s amazing what power there is when all those hearts work together.

"A planned gift provides support for years to come and creates opportunities for members to have a significant impact upon the future success of all the Assistance League of Long Beach’s philanthropic programs.  By sharing the story of my bequest and my membership in the Legacy Society, my hope is that other member volunteers will be inspired to do the same.”  --  Karen Sprague

Faye and Bob Alperin believe in giving back to their community. Faye first discovered Assistance League® of Long Beach back in 1988 when she was a part of Rick Rackers. However, when her daughter Barbara became an Assisteens member, Faye joined Chapter and felt that it was the perfect fit for her.  The Alperins believe wholeheartedly in Assistance League of Long Beach and its mission because it is able to reach so many young people who are in need in our community.  They like that it is a “hands on” organization and meaningful for the volunteers.  For their full story.
